FAA provided drone registration recommendations by Task Force

Thursday, November 26, 2015 - 10:22

The Federal Aviation Administration has been informed how the agency can quickly implement a drone registration process by members of Task Force. The agency wants this system implemented before the end of the year with the consensus being that drones ranging between 250 grams (0.55 pounds) and 25KG (55 pounds) that are operated outdoors need to be registered.

The Task Force membership represents a range of stakeholder viewpoints, interests and knowledge of objectives and scope. Michael Huerta, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Administrator announced in November 2015 that Earl Lawrence, Director of the FAA’s UAS Integration Office, and Dave Vos of Google X will co-chair the group. Task Force membership is by invitation only and participation is voluntary although Interested parties who are not members may submit comments to the public docket, which is available on the FAA website.
